Wally T. Lawton NZHHA 1146 and “Registered Author #2200 Auckland Council” began learning about fireplaces and chimney construction in 1957 under the tutelage of James Spruce when a solid fuel range (Aga) was installed at the College Bookshop, the home of retired Major Bogle. Many of the chimneys which we worked on at that time were very much in the ‘Charles Dickens – Oliver Twist’ style, very large and very dirty coal burning fires.
The first fire unit we installed in New Zealand was an insert Kent-Barker wood burner installed 1976 in a home in Timaru. Although a JETMASTER fire unit was later installed by us in a Christchurch home, most of our work is now concentrated in the Auckland area.
