Wally T. Lawton NZHHA 1146. began
learning about fireplaces and chimney construction in 1957 under
the tutelage of James Spruce when a solid fuel range (Aga) was
installed at the College Book shop, the home of retired Major
Bogle. Many of the chimneys which we worked on at that time were
very much in the 'Charles Dickens - Oliver Twist' style, very
large and very dirty coal burning fires.
The first fire unit we
installed in New Zealand was an insert Kent-Barker wood burner
installed 1976 in a home in Timaru. Although a JETMASTER fire
unit was recently installed by us in a Christchurch home, most
of our work is now concentrated in the Auckland area.
Patsy a genuine
'Girl Friday' who
does all of the canvassing and telephonist work was, in her youth
a supervisor on the old telephone switchboard. Her very professional
and friendly approach has won her many friends amongst our growing
client file.
Fergie 'the dog that thouht he was a lion' recently suceeded
by Sam has been retired in memorial to stand watch on the Mac. Sam follows The
FIREPLACE TECHNICIAN everywhere he goes and guards the
vehicle and its contents. He is in charge of security both on
the road and in the office!
